ANDREW CHEN IN MELBOURNE
Andrew Chen, co-founder of New York-based 3sixteen, a contemporary menswear label with a focus on raw denim, was in Melbourne last week to launch his concept store in collaboration with MINI Paceman. I had a chance to sit with him over a round of scotch (or a least he did and I attempted to) to talk about his own personal style, what make the perfect jean and how to avoid crotch blowouts. Enjoy!
VIDEO INTERVIEW
Thanks Giuseppe! Sorry for rambling.

There’s been a lot written about the “decline of men,” the idea that economic and cultural factors are gradually turning more and more men into losers who have no positive, masculine, postpatriarchy r…I don’t mean the Jesus who was turned into a convenient symbol of intolerance and hypocrisy by the militant atheist crowd, or the twisted version worshipped by the Westboro Baptist crowd. No, today is a boom time in the making for the real Jesus: the one who told men that the single-minded pursuit of wealth or honor or even “family values” is sure to leave the soul barren; the one who told men that they should never be shocked when they feel despair or feel despised, because there is no rest or repose for us in this mortal world; the one who told men what he told the paralyzed guy in Mark 2:9—and this is why I have that verse permanently inked on my skin—take up thy mat and walk.
Sorry Sarah, I replaced the quote you included (which was the second best one in the article) with my favorite one. It’s interesting to me that VICE would have someone write about Jesus, who is so uncool nowadays that maybe He now actually qualifies to be in their publication. Anyways, this is good stuff and was an encouragement to me.
Market Lane Queen Vic
109-111 Therry Street
Melbourne 3000
I think I enjoyed my coffee at Market Lane most out of all the places I visited in Melbourne. I’m not speaking purely about the coffee itself (although it was amazing); the vibe was right, and I felt comfortable and unrushed - this is very important to me. The cafe was quiet enough to where I could take my time enjoying my cup while chatting with the baristas. Highly recommended.
